Tech-Death Tuesday: GROTESQUE Deliver Ruthless Shred Brutality on Feedback Loop

Hey there tech fiends, it's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus on Grotesque, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

As a whole, technical brutal death metal tends to produce very lopsided results, more bands get the balance between the two wrong than the much smaller number who get it right. But when it's done perfectly, it's certainly a best of both world's situations where shred and brutality bounce off each other effortlessly. And that's exactly what Feedback Loop, the new album from Perth, Australia natives Grotesque achieves from start to finish.

Like the rest of the best technical brutal death metal bands out there, Grotesque don't have a singular mixture of elements, nor do they write an album where all the songs sound the same. Instead, they switch it up a lot and show a surprising amount of versatility in both their songwriting and in the varied mixtures between tech-death and brutal death metal spewing forth throughout Feedback Loop. Which comes across like a furious blend between tech-death like Brain Drill, Origin, Decrepit Birth, and Deeds Of Flesh conjoined to brutal minded influences such as Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Severed Savior, and Hate Eternal. Having learned that this album has been in the making for seven years since their prior self-titled EP was released in 2010, it makes perfect sense that the quality of the material here is so high. I keep coming back to Feedback Loop over and over and I suspect many of you will do the same once you hear it.

Feedback Loop is proof yet again that you don't have to re-invent the wheel to make a killer tech-death record. You just need experienced musicians with solid songwriting skills and the ability to form a hybridized sound from your influences in a way that's interesting.  If you haven't heard it yet, you should check out Feedback Loop embedded below, and if you dig what you're hearing, orders can be placed through the Grotesque Bandcamp page. Be sure to follow the group over on their Facebook page as well.
