Trivium recently recruited drummer Alex Bent (Brain Drill, Underling, etc.), who is the fourth the band has had since original drummer Travis Smith left in 2009. Trivium frontman and guitarist Matt Heafy has since stated that everyone post-Smith hasn't been an official member, though to be fair Bent just drummed on probably the best album Trivium has ever put out. So maybe they should consider permanently adding the dude?
Anyway, in an interview with iRock Radio, Bent explains that they pretty much just heard about him through the grapevine. He adds that mutual friends between himself and Trivium also recommended Bent, which caused Trivium to fly him down to try out for the band.
"It just came down to me doing my thing with other bands and them hearing about me. They knew who I was, but it really came together with mutual friends. When it really came down to it and they were, like, 'We need the guy. We need someone solid,' there was mutual friends that just said, 'Hey, Alex is there.' And they were, like, 'Yeah, we definitely know his name, we know his work. So why don't we fly him out here and hang out, jam for a little bit?' And then from there, it was, like, day one, we were just going for it. It all kind of fell into place."
If you haven't picked up or checked out Trivium's new album The Sin And The Sentence yet, you absolutely need to do that right here.
