BABYMETAL To Release "Apocrypha: The Legend Of BABYMETAL;" Cartoon In The Works

A Babymetal cartoon?!

A Babymetal cartoon?!

This past weekend, Japanese kawaii-metal sensation Babymetal posted a teaser which got fans speculating.

Turns out it's not a new album, but a new comic book, err graphic novel titled Apocrypha: The Legend Of BABYMETAL.  The book is a collaboration between Kobametal, Amuse Group USA, and Z2 Comics. The book is looking to expand on the band's mythology. Here's the description:

“Discover the myth of the worldwide music sensation BABYMETAL. Tasked with defeating the forces of darkness and division, the metal spirits must travel through a variety of eras of time, assuming different forms and identities. What we are seeing is not the BABYMETAL of the present. It’s the original story based on BABYMETAL you’ve never heard before. The long-hidden metal spirit’s apocrypha of the METAL RESISTANCE will emerge.”

Here is what the cover looks like:

When pressed byThe Hollywood Reporter, co-publisher Sridhar Reddy wasn't willing to divulge too much info: “With the book still months from publication, it’s too early to reveal much. In the months to come, Babymetal fans can expect more announcements, but today I would say the question we should be asking is not who is Babymetal, but what is Babymetal?”

There is an Amazon pre-order page, but no pre-orders are currently being taken:

In another interesting tidbit, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the band's talent agency, Amuse Inc. has partnered with Warner Bros. to develop a cartoon based on the band. No other details on the cartoon are known at the moment.

A release date and more info for the graphic novel are expected in the coming months.
