Hey there tech fiends, it's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual reminder that if you're looking for more sick music, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.
Fetocide is yet another technical death metal band who had an excellent 2017 album that I'm just now belatedly getting around to covering in 2018. I realize this is a damn shame because Reckoning Dystopia is truly a stunning tour-de-force that deserves more attention. But, better late than never certainly applies so be sure to check this one out! The band hails from Germany and Reckoning Dystopia is the group's third full-length since their inception in 1998. Fetocide plays an interesting take on tech-death combing primal brutal death metal and technical brutal death metal in a fresh manner eschewing the unmemorable blandness most groups attempting to do such a merger wind up with.
Reckoning Dystopia calls to mind much of the best of the modern (for the style) scenes takes that have evolved to encompass new flirtations with both stark dissonance and over-the-top shredding. Atop that main core, Fetocide adds in their own progressive death metal elements at times and standout varied songwriting throughout. Culminating in a blindingly brutal and savage approach to tech-death delivered in a surprisingly sophisticated and well thought out manner. If you can wrap your head around their music spanning the gamut between sonic comparisons to groups like Unfathomable Ruination, Disentomb, Ingurgitating Oblivion, Torturous Inception, Deeds Of Flesh, and Defilementory, you'll feel right at home with the destructive brilliance on display here.
There are very few bands out there dialing into the kind of specialized and nuanced take on brutal heavy tech-death as is, and all the better that Fetocide are masters at their craft. It’s easy to make this style sound like one monotonous mess of generic riffs and stop-start intensity done without care, yet far harder to make it sound this damn good and engaging as Fetocide does on each and every song here.
