EYEHATEGOD Says Guitarist Brian Patton Has Left The Band, Discusses Next Album

Maybe a new album in 2019 but we'll see.

Maybe a new album in 2019 but we'll see.

Eyehategod is currently working on the follow-up to their 2014 self-titled album, which at the time was their first new effort in 14 years. The band also hit a serious speedbump back in 2016 when vocalist Mike IX Williams needed a new liver, but he's since gotten a transplant and has been doing quite well.

Williams recently sat down with Hayley Leggs and discussed the new material they've got going, which he says he hopes will come out in 2019 but makes no promises.

"We were listening to the demo today on our drive here. We have a demo of, I think, maybe five or six songs. But I think we're gonna re-record it. 'Cause now we're a four-piece band. And with my health thing over with, it's kind of like a new era of the band."

"We're not one of those bands that tours, puts out an album, tours… We do it when we want to and when we feel… I mean, bands like that, sometimes they put out shitty albums 'cause they just write stuff very quickly. We just wanna take our time and write good songs."

You'll also notice that Williams refers to Eyehategod as a four piece. Guitarist Brian Patton was notably absent from the band's most recent tour, and Williams confirms he quit to take care of his family and young child.

"He quit, because he has a new baby. He has two kids now — he has a new baby — and he's taking care of his wife's parents; they're having some health issues, I believe. So it's for a good cause, but he couldn't tour with us anymore. But it's fun being a four-piece; I like the sound and the vibe and everything. So it's kind of like a new era of the band."

Brian Patton played with Eyehategod from 1993 to 2018.
