Canadian death grinders Kataplexis are one of those bands where we are always surprised that they've fallen under the radar.
Supplying a dizzying ferocity of grindcore and technical death metal, these guys are giving another reason to pay attention to the sounds coming from the Great White North.
Our own Austin Weber once wrote about the band for NO CLEAN SINGING, praising the band for their "relentlessly crushing, suffocating, and pummeling" approach.
He also raved, "They offer a fair bit of contrast not readily present in most deathgrind, vacillating between short, purely grind-blasted death bursts and longer grindcore-fed chaotic death metal numbers. All of which pairs nicely with the occasional black metal poisonous riffs in their veins, coursing a darker shade of rot into the proceedings."
The good news is that Kataplexis' latest, self-titled, offering is another exquisite example of those poisonous and brutalizing riffs at work.
Recorded by Ryan Kennedy, Kataplexis was mixed by Dennis Israel (Misery Index, Amon Amarth) and mastered by Jens Bogren (At The Gates, Opeth), which helps give the album that extra pizzaz.
