Okay, enough with the joking. A new Tool album is coming this year!
A few weeks ago, a fan asked drummer Danny Carey when Tool planned to release their long-anticipated new album. Carey tells a fan that Tool is shooting to release their new album in mid-April, and adds that "that's the plan, anyway." Fans got excited. Another fan asked frontman Maynard James Keenan if the rumors about an April release were true and he said no. Fans were sad. I guess enough people reached out to Maynard that he felt he needed to release a sincere album update.

In a tweet, Maynard says the band is "midway through mixing," and then noted there might be some recalls and arguing. That would be followed by mastering, then dealing with "artwork, video special packaging, etc."
Maynard notes a ballpark guess for when new Tool would actually be released would be somewhere between mid-May and mid-July.
The Tool frontman concluded the highly informative tweet noting that "more focused updates to follow as we progress."
So, it sounds to me like the band is in the trenches, and trying to hammer this one out.
Update- Midway through mixing. Most likely be a few recalls. Then some arguing. Then Mastering, Artwork, Video, Special Packaging, etc. Best Ballpark Guess- Release date somewhere between Mid May and Mid July. More focused updates to follow as we progress. @tool #simplemath pic.twitter.com/o6T4AloLtB
