Earlier this week, we reported that Facebook suddenly decided that the artwork to the legendary Led Zeppelin album, Houses of the Holy, was deemed inappropriate for the social network's standards. Fans were getting old posts with the image removed and getting a soft-ban from Facebook for their troubles. Petitions were launched, articles were posted and Facebook finally heard our call.
Ultimate Classic Rock reports that Facebook has done an about-face on the matter and will now allow the album artwork on their social network, writing:
“‘As our community standards explain, we don’t allow nude images of children on Facebook,’ a spokesperson for the company told UCR. ‘But we know this a culturally significant image. Therefore, we’re restoring the posts we removed.’
“In the coming days, the social-media giant will adjust its review mechanisms to permit sharing of this cover by all users. Facebook also plans to allow similar content on a case-by-case basis that might otherwise violate their standards if it is deemed newsworthy, significant or important to the public interest.”
So, good for Facebook for not fucking this one up. There's plenty of other content on there they should be worried about, and also maybe check in to make sure their moderators are okay.
