Guitarist Jim Root parted ways with Stone Sour in 2014. It didn't seem like the most amicable split at the time, with Root calling the band a "sinking ship" and accusing certain members of being money hungry. It was an especially awkward split considering Root and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor were both still in Slipknot and Root remained in the 'knot.

Now a few years out from the situation, Root has finally commented on what it was like. Speaking to Metal Hammer, Root revealed that leaving Stone Sour was the best thing that could've happened to his relationship with Corey Taylor:

“Corey and I are much closer now. It’s the best thing, me leaving Stone Sour. We would have just ended up killing each other and driving each other crazy. I can’t spread myself that thin. I needed it, this band needed it and Stone Sour certainly needed it. I just didn’t have the time to commit that I’d have liked. I think they were tired of my shitty attitude, that’s for sure.”

Stone Sour has since gone on to release one new album and Slipknot will release theirs titled We Are Not Your Kind on August 9.
