Megadeth guitarist Kiko Loureiro joined the band in 2015, and today he opens up about the experience. In a new video, he talks about how he landed the gig and shares a piece of a quick demo reel he recorded to send to the band that put the wheels in motion to get him in the band.
Loureiro says he was contacted by the band to be flown in on a Monday to their Nashville studios. In preparation, Loureiro decided to record a bunch of demos with his own camera to prove he was up for the gig. He noted he spent the weekend learning “Hangar 18,” “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due,” “Symphony of Destruction,” and “Trust.” He filmed himself playing those Megadeth classics, and while he says there were a few flubs, he clearly still got the gig.
Loureiro discusses this process and then shares a clip of his audition of “Hangar 18” in the video below. The shredding begins at 3:52
