We know that St. Vincent loves her some metal, but now it looks like she is hoping to seep some of her metal fandom into her work. Speaking about her next album, Daddy's Home, which she said has a '70s vibe, she also noted at one point she was working on progressions for the album that would remind fans of Tool.
She told Radio.com "The crazy thing about music is, you can plan and plan and think you're gonna go one way, and then you start writing and the music just takes you wherever the music takes you. That was certainly the experience with this. I was dead set in my mind I was just gonna make this like, heavy record."
"Like just heavy the whole time — like, 'hey kids, you like Tool? Well, you'll love the St. Vincent record,' you know?"
She "went down a road with that" but however didn't use any of the Tool-sounding takes on her new album. You may recall, during the recording process, she released a short cover of "Forty Six & 2", which guitarist Adam Jones approved of.
Asked if fans would ever hear her Tool-like sounds, she reassured them "We'll get there, don't worry."
