In 2017, Chelsea Grin guitarist Dan Jones announced he was going part-time with the band to go to medical school. At the time, I joked – Paging Dr. Jones, Dr. Jones, you're needed on stage to perform "Angels Shall Sin, Demons Shall Pray."
Jones took time off in 2015 to "research microbial mercury methylation." In 2017, he was accepted to attend the University of Utah School of Medicine and left the band shortly after. Jones is continuing his studies with a new residency on the way to becoming a general surgeon with a residency in the surgery department at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, NY, according to ThePRP. Jones is obviously thrilled:
It'll be about five years of training before Jones is a doctor, and this could mean we might have a US version of the time a medical patient woke up from a coma to be greeted by a respiratory therapist who was in his favorite metal band.
