Next Friday, May 7th, Comatose Music will release the debut album from In Asymmetry, Ashes of Dead Worlds. I’m happy to help premiere the album opener “Whom Prey on the Weak” today for you all to check out. This one is a doozy.
Although In Asymmetry is technically based out of Chile, members for the project live all over the globe. Guitarist Victor Anareda (Esophagus, Indoctrinated) is joined once again by Australian Bass/NS Stick player Darren Joy who was in The Ritual Aura for many years. Joined this go around by killer US-based members vocalist Taylor Wientjes (ex-Inanimate Existence, ex-The Kennedy Veil) and drummer extraordinaire Darren Cesca of Deeds Of Flesh and ex-Arsis fame rounds out the line-up.
As you can probably guess from the artwork and their impressive line-up, In Asymmetry plays technical brutal death metal, yet their take on it is a lot more impressive than most groups in my opinion. Musically, the song being premiered today “Whom Prey on the Weak”, and the album as a whole, resides somewhere between Deeds of Flesh and Decrepit Birth terrain, albeit with a much more prominent bass presence throughout than most groups in this style. Wisely, their new album clocks in at a lean 34-minutes in length. Never wearing out its welcome while delivering a host of excellent songs that take a number of listens each to really absorb.
Guitarist Victor Araneda was kind enough to send over a statement about the song we're premiering today. today’s premiere. He shared with me that "‘Whom Prey on the Weak’ was the third song that I created for this album mixing some complex arpeggios with classic dark tremolos, weird time signatures, fast-changing tempos, and melodies made with fury. Personally, I love this song because it’s like a kick in the face since the beginning.
From my vision; ‘Whom Prey on the Weak’ describes how some deities (false by the way) stay alive thanks to the fear and ignorance of their followers. Behind the entire album exists a storyline for sure. But at the same time, some titles aren’t what you think, I created each song with a double meaning and it diverges from lyrics.”
In my opinion, In Asymmetry – Ashes of Dead Worlds is the best technical brutal death metal release I’ve heard so far in 2021. So be sure to check out “Whom Prey on the Weak” below.
