GHOST BATH – A Crystal Lattice
Dennie Mikula's psychology background and his own dealings with depression go hand in hand with his Minneapolis band Ghost Bath's malaise during that town's dealings with the George Floyd incident, and its manifestations at the height of that town's Covid. Deep undercurrents of sorrow flow through the musical trenches of their 'Self Loather' LP out now on Nuclear Blast, atmospheric black metal for the midwest and beyond. TEETH – Fog of Futility
With their upcoming 'Finite' LP (Translation Loss) and a recent opening slot on Decibel's Metal and Beer Fest, Teeth are entering the radar screen for heady death metallers to watch. Churning cyclical riffs run opposing machinedrum clatter and vocals circle around the main rhythm pound like evil vultures never quite lining in synch until a final divebomb attack.
HOLY DEATH – Sacrifice Like Lambs
Formed immediately after an actual near death experience of the singer's, the West Coast death/doom combo Holy Death inject some of the rawness into the genre found by the likes of Entombed. Buzzing riffs, pummelling rhythm and gargoyle-style vocals create some bulldozer energy worth keeping an ear on for future endeavors.
CRAZY LIXX – Rise Above
Checked these Swedes out on Alex Kayne's Slaughterhouse show (where he did an interview) and got sucked into an 80's neon Sunset Strip vortex of slick and strident OG heavy metal. Flashy riffs, power vocals, done ably and adeptly enough to land them a spot in Nicolas Cage's "Willy's Wonderland" horror flick (!)
