YouTube channel Metal A Day just posted their previously-unreleased interview with then-Sinsaenum drummer Joey Jordison. According to the fine folks at MetalSucks, the interview was filmed sometime in 2018 at the VEGA music venue in Copenhagen, Denmark. During the interview, Jordison discusses really enjoying playing with Sinsaenum, touring for the love of touring, and how great the band's fans are.
"What we want to achieve to just keep growing it, make it bigger and bigger. Now, with three releases, we're playing selections from all three albums. We just want to keep touring and get out to as many people as possible, and just keep growing Sinsaenum every day.
"When things come along, and there's an opportunity…there's a responsibility when you're releasing records. This being our third record…you gotta go where the work is. And you've gotta be there, ready to play. Other than that, just glad to be anywhere. Glad to be here, playing tonight, and we're looking forward to it.
"We don't have to play. We could be home with our families. But the thing is, with a true musician, you do, even if you don't want to or don't feel like it some days — 30 seconds onstage, and you're glad that you're there. And you're thankful for it."
Jordison co-founded Sinsaenum and performed drums on all three of their EPs and both full-length records, released between 2016 and 2018. Jordison passed away in 2021, though Sinsaenum has vowed they plan to carry on.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and brother Joey Jordison," said Sinsaenum at the time of Jordison's passing. "He was of course one of the most influential drummers in the genre, completely rewriting the game of metal drumming, and it was truly an honor to share even just a small part of that with him. He brought something to the table that no other musician could, and his love and passion for music was unmatched in a world of jaded artists.
"For us Joey was family, and like family we argued and cried, but mostly laughed, and cared deeply for one another. His public image had a serious tone, with an evil exterior, yet he had the biggest heart, and we were lucky to be able to see the softer side of him. Joey also had his demons, and nothing hurts more than knowing that we did everything in our power to help and couldn't get through to him. He never felt he was better than anyone and would go out of this way to put everything, and everyone above his own needs.
"Our hearts go out to Amanda, to his family, and to the true friends that were checking in on him. And to all our fans and friends who reached out to us in this time of mourning, thank you.
"Considering everything; moving on will be difficult at first, especially since we had already started writing the new album, but we will persevere, and will honor his legacy in everything we do moving forward. This next record will be dedicated to the memory of him, as that's what Joey would have wanted.
"Hails, and Horns as Joey would say. We miss you Jsaenum, and will love you forever."
Sinsaenum is currently guitarists Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast) and Frédéric Leclercq (Amahiru, Kreator), bassist Heimoth (Seth), and vocalists Attila Csihar (Mayhem) and Sean Zatorsky (Dååth, ex-Chimaira).
