Decibel's Clips of the Month

Decibel Clips of the Month – October 2012: Videos from Ensiferum, Castle, Exumer, Pig Destroyer

Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the mag under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from Ensiferum, Castle, Exumer and a classic clip from Pig Destroyer.

Ensiferum – “In My Sword I Trust”

This video takes place in ancient times, hundreds of years ago, when people had to play their keyboards and six-string basses without electricity. The band is rocking out in a castle of sorts, cutting away every few seconds to recount an epic, violent tale told through a bunch of grainy 3D photographs, like you’re watching Braveheart in a View-Master. The band clearly didn’t have to spend a ton on shirts, but I guess even then the budget didn’t extend past some swords, some facepaint and Instagram’s “Medieval” filter.

Castle – “Corpse Candles”

Did I say that one video looked like a View-Master? Because this thing looks like it was filmed through a leather-jacketed kaleidoscope. Honestly, just chug half a bottle of Robitussin and try not to blink as the video engraves a rainbow in the dark on your retinas. By the time the clown mask makes an appearance, you will either be sucked through the computer screen or find yourself aboard a Somali pirate ship off the coast of Bahrain.

Exumer – “Fire & Damnation”

This singer has the most perfectly round and beautiful bald head I’ve ever seen. There’s not really much else to say, since this video is just the band playing live and literally walking around a city like they’re looking for a sports bar they can all agree on. I guess there are also shots of some slums, so that probably has a deeper meaning. Oh, and the bass player seems to also have a very impressive bald-ass head. Uh, maybe just put on the song and go read Twitter or something.

CLASSIC CLIP Pig Destroyer “Gravedancer”

If you don’t remember which video this is, it’s the one where Scott Hull inexplicably vomits a couple times. There’s also a pretty lady in the woods, some fire, a sweet Triac T-shirt and… wait, this is the classic clip? Didn’t it come out like five years ago? If the classic clip next time is Ensiferum “In My Sword I Trust,” I’m quitting this gig.
