The UK heavy prog outfit Boss Keloid have dropped a thrilling new live in the studio performance of their killer track "Hats the Mandrill" from their 2021 LP, Family the Smiling Thrush. It was recorded and filmed live in Wales at Foel Studio back in 2021. You can watch the video above, or here.
Boss Keloid will release as a live album and DVD, Family The Smiling Thrush: Live At Foel Studio, through Ripple Music on July 1. Both the album and DVD include the band's performance of Family the Smiling Thrush that was recorded at Foel over two days in May of 2021
"After working with [producer] Chris Fielding at Foel Studio on our latest album, we were really impressed by the set up there, and made an almost immediate decision to produce another, better live album than our last," according to the band. "The songs have a whole new energy and feel to them when they're played live, and that's something a lot of people prefer. There's a lot of history to that studio and we felt like we had a lot to live up to, but Chris has done an incredible job of capturing everything, and we're really pleased with the result." Last year, Metal Injection had this to say about Family the Smiling Thrush: "[It's] bound to elicit ear-to-ear smiles, full body goosebumps, and even a tear or two… Doom and sludge rarely gets more transcendent than this, and Family the Smiling Thrush is a masterful statement from one of the best bands of the past decade."
