Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week's top 5 office buzz-worthy tracks.

Glassing – "Sulk"

This new 7" from Texas troubadours Glassing finds them continuing on with their progressive sound of whirring-knives, blackened hardcore. Methodic timekeeping underpins the claustrophobic hurricane of shrieking vocals, downtown-NYC-style subway screech guitar dissonance, and unrelenting attack we know and love them for. The release is out on Brutal Panda.

Sarcator – "Grave Maggot Future"

These Swedish younguns are back and if you heard the band blind, you'd assume they were old school ragers! There's definitely influence felt via their singer, son of The Crown's Marko Tervonen, and it's also fitting that they fit the blackened thrash mode because their very name is a hybrid of Sarcófago and Kreator.

Autopsy – "Skin By Skin"

The old school kings are back, following up their great last EP with the new September full-length Morbidity Triumphant and this teaser finds them in great form. Unfurling a Sabbath slow-crawl, they explode into the thrash/death mode with grace and aplomb, we look forward to the rest of the new tracks. Also worth mentioning: drummer Chris Reifert (who was also a vet of Death's classic Scream Bloody Murder) is a regular sub DJ on Gimme, his next episode on the way September 29!

Candlemass – "Scandinavian Gods"

The Swede doomlords have been active on stage as of late and are back with a new LP Sweet Evil Sun out November 18 on Napalm, with this forerunner track floating now. Some may bemoan the evolution of their sound, but while the past is the past, this outing seems to promise some excellent nods to classic 'mass for the complaint department (of which I do not belong). Check out the smothering crackle of the hovering guitar, Langquist emoting with full power over the clearly emotional content he sings with assurance. Welcome back Candlemass!

Russian Circles – "Gnosis"

A siren drone, cascadingly quiet guitar figures, wordless presence and explosions 5 minutes in. It's the classic traits we have come to know and love from Russian Circles, who have quickly stepped up to define the amalgamation of atmospheric post-rock and metal with deft confidence. Their cinematic approach to music mines the space between movements like few can, they can be cavernous, obliterating, storytelling sans any words. This title track of their new LP is out now on Sargent House.

"It's refreshing to hear a band operate within a musical sphere that's decidedly off the deep end with this much clarity of purpose."
