This week's new heavy metal releases include nine dudes still trying to scare your parents, black metal from space that may actually scare your parents, and more! Get some of the below releases on CD and vinyl here via Gimme Metal, and always – to the metals…
Autopsy – Morbidity Triumphant
Genre: Death metal
Origin: Oakland, California
Label: Peaceville
Getting this party started with some nasty old school death metal with one of the old school masters of nasty death metal. This is gore-filled, evil, and heavy. What more could you want from an Autopsy record? Turns that thirty-five years into a career, you can still find new violent things to scream about. J. has a full review here. Get it on vinyl here via Gimme Metal.
Escuela Grind – Memory Theater
Genre: Grindcore
Origin: Pittsfield, Massachusetts
Label: MNRK Heavy
With "grind" in the name, you can guess what you're in for here. This is a sonic flurry that only slows for hardcore breakdowns or moments of feedback. Rumor on the street is that this is a band to see live, and I can only imagine how intense their shows much be with a record this exciting. Get it on vinyl here via Gimme Metal.
Labyrinth of Stars – Spectrum Xenomorph
Genre: Death/black metal
Origin: Germany
Label: Translation Loss Records
Buy now on Bandcamp
Heavy week so far. This one has the intensity of Escuela Grind, but with a much darker aura. This sounds like Anaal Nathrakh without all the big melodic moments. Markus Siegenhort (Lantlos), Christian Kolf (Valborg) and Dirk Stark are giving you lots of dissonance here. If you're into unease, this one is for you. Get it here on vinyl via Gimme Metal.
Mythic Sunship – Light/Flux
Genre: Heavy metal/progressive
Origin: Copenhagen, Denmark
Label: Tee Pee
Taking a break for some saxophone-infused spacy jams and psychedelic freak outs on the latest from Mythic Sunship. Once you hit play, you'll be lost in their free-form riffage. This album will force your body to grow a mustache, and if you already have a mustache, all of your jackets will grow fringe. Get it on vinyl here via Gimme Metal.
Rage – Spreading The Plague
Genre: Heavy metal/thrash
Origin: Herne, Germany
Label: SPV/Steamhammer
Just a year after last year's Resurrection Day, Rage have already returned with this six song EP. There are a few new songs, an acoustic version of "A New Land," "Straight To Hell" live, and a reimagining of "The Price Of War" with their current lineup. This could serve as a unique introduction to a band with A LOT of history to them. Get it on vinyl here via Gimme Metal.
Slipknot – The End, So Far
Genre: Nu metal/heavy metal
Origin: Des Moines, Iowa
Label: Roadrunner
It's time for you maggots to don your jumpsuits once more, as the nine-headed beast known as Slipknot has returned. As always, you're getting driving rhythms, soaring choruses, record scratches, keg hits, and and all that curated chaos you know and love. This is Michael Pfaff's (aka Tortilla Man/Face/Guy/etc.) first with the band, which is fun for him. Jim seems unsure about this one, but how is it treating you? Get it on vinyl and CD here via Gimme Metal.
