Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen, coming off the incredible news that she is now cancer free, has announced that she will release her first ever solo LP, Paragon, on March 24. The album will be available on all DSPs, plus a CD edition, a vinyl LP, and a limited-edition box set. A pre-order for the album is available here.
Paragon will feature 10 original tracks written by Jansen, three of which have been previously released already—“Me Without You,” “Storm,” and “Fire.” In a statement announcing the album, Jansen said, "To renew yourself and take leaps into the unknown makes you grow. To age is a gift not everyone gets. I am a fortunate woman who got to make an album I never knew I could make. One that even defines me, where I am on my path."
Last month, Jansen revealed via Twitter that she'll still undergo local radiation therapy in February 2023 to make sure the cancer stays gone, but otherwise has been deemed cancer free at this time.
"I'm getting my energy back after the surgery and feel a huge relief to know it was successful!” Jansen wrote. “I’m not back to a 100% but I have no doubt the shows will give me the power push I need to rock with all of you on the upcoming European tour. Thank you for your amazing support and well wishes."
It seems like 2023 and 2024 are shaking up to be very busy time for Jansen and Nightwish, as just this week, Nightwish keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen confirmed the band’s next LP has been written and demoed, and the only thing left to do now is to get into the studio and crank it out.
"The wonderful thing is that we have had the demo [of the album] done since last spring. So it's been done for six months now. We really have all the time in the world to go through it all, and we have had a such great time with the band, just listening to the demo in our hotel rooms — me singing the lyrics and the melodies to Floor. She's recording them and then she's seeing them and throwing ideas to each other."
