Rumors of Mötley Crüe using backing tracks at their live shows began to swirl throughout their 2022 tour. Then earlier this year, Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars sued the band over a variety of issues, including allegations their original farewell tour in 2015 was largely backing tracks in place of live performances. Mötley Crüe denied Mars' claims, but fans have clearly not dropped the issue.
Mötley Crüe posted a video of drummer Tommy Lee playing at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, CA from their 2022 tour and one fan commented "Saw the backing tracks tour last yr and paid dearly to see it. It's a hard NO for me this time around…" Instead of letting it go, Mötley Crüe (or whoever manages their social media) fired back "THIS IS THE SUMMER TOUR FOOTAGE FOR FUCKS SAKE. THERE WERE NO BACKING TRACKS FOR BAND MEMBERS – FUCKING CLOWN." The comment was then edited to remove "FUCKING CLOWN," but the damage was already done
On one hand, I get it – getting dogged on your social media constantly must be a pain in the ass. But on the flip side, just don't read the comments? That's Internet 101 for anyone and everyone running any sort of mid- to high-profile page. Backing tracks or not, clearly fans didn't mind considering Crüe's 2022 tour was one of the most profitable tours of the year across any genre.
