Watch: DIMMU BORGIR Played Loads Of Songs They Haven't In Years At Beyond The Gates 2023

A few haven't been played since the late '90s.

Dimmu Borgir played a special 30-year anniversary set at the Beyond The Gates Festival over the weekend, and boy did they dig deep for a lot of their setlist. A lot of the tracks Dimmu Borgir haven't been performed in over 10 years, with a few like "Dødsferd" and "Over bleknede blåner til dommedag" having been absent for literal decades. The show ran as follows:

  1. "Raabjørn speiler draugheimens skodde" (First time since 2012)
  2. "Over bleknede blåner til dommedag" (First time since 1995)
  3. "Spellbound (by the Devil)" (First time since 2012)
  4. "Entrance" (First time since 2012)
  5. "Grotesquery Conceiled (Within Measureless Magic)" (First time since 2007)
  6. "The Insight and the Catharsis"
  7. "Stormblåst" (First time since 2008)
  8. "Dødsferd" (First time since 1997)
  9. "Dimmu Borgir"
  10. "The Chosen Legacy"
  11. "Interdimensional Summit"
  12. "Ætheric"
  13. "Council of Wolves and Snakes"
  14. "Rite of Passage" (Live debut)
  15. "Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny"
  16. "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse"
  17. "Mourning Palace"

In an interview from 2020Dimmu Borgir guitarist Silenoz said that the band was working on new material. Silenoz notes that Dimmu Borgir was considering toning down the orchestrations and going for a stripped-down sound, but who knows how they feel now – that was three years ago.

"It's obviously always strange to talk about it that early in the songwriting process, but I feel like it might be a little more stripped down. And that's probably not saying too much, because we have so much of everything. But I feel like we're looking at maybe toning it down a little bit, especially on the orchestral side. So people shouldn't be too surprised if they get a bit more stripped-down version of Dimmu on the next album."
