Persekutor's new EP Power Frost is either the work of a band with no self-awareness whatsoever or a Metalocalypse style satire of the tragically grim True Kvlt crowd. The smart money's on the latter considering the ridiculousness of the band's biography and the fact that the only evidence of Perseskutor's existence before 2013 is a sketchy blog. Still, if you disregard the silly lyrics (Give in to the night/Satan treats you right/Blame it on the ice/Terminal frostbite) and the almost certainly phony band history, Power Frost is a decent two song EP.
Both tracks on the EP, "Power Frost" and "The Twitching Hour," are mid-tempo throwbacks to old school black metal featuring raspy vocals and lo-fi, trebly production. The songs are brief and barely reach 6 minutes in total, but neither is wanting in the catchy riff department. Persekutor have done a good job creating a grim and frostbitten atmosphere on Power Frost and it will be interesting to hear what the band has in store for the future…assuming this isn't just a goofy side project from a more well known band. Which it probably is.
Power Frost is out right now on Magic Bullet Records. Stream the title track from the EP below if you're curious about what black metal from Romanian goat herders sounds like.
