This Rock & Metal Streaming App Aims To Pay Artists More

An interesting take on a massive problem.

Rokk

It's not secret that Spotify is making it harder and harder for artists to make a living. And while that's still going to be an issue for a lot of artists in a lot of genres, the new ROKK app is at least trying to change things for rock and metal bands.

ROKK is pretty much exactly what it sounds like – a streaming service for rock and metal musicians whose core idea is to pay artists better. How much better? "Our goal is that every stream will pay significantly more, up to 2-3 times more in fact," reads a portion of ROKK's Kickstarter. "Even more exciting, ROKK allows you to directly support an artist of your choice with up to 10% of your subscription!"

ROKK further exaplins that one of their main issues with the modern streaming service payment method is that artists you're not listening to are getting your money. ROKK aims to fix that by paring down their genre offering, by allowing the aformentioned percentage of your subscription fee to go to a specific artist, and by "taking the focus away from the mainstream."

ROKK also promises a vast encyclopedia of rock and metal information via their Rokkpedia, high-quality audio, and curated playlists by their team, trusted friends, and rockstars from all over the world. ROKK is currently seeking €10,000 (about $10,949) on Kickstarter, which you can donate to here.
