On Wednesday, April 2nd, Iraq war veteran Ivan Lopez, 34, opened fire at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, killing three people and wounding 16 before taking his own life. As the story continued to unfold, we learned that Lopez had an unstable psychiatric history and was being evaluated for potential post traumatic stress disorder.
As the story unfolded, his Facebook page was discovered, where he went under the alias of "Ivan Slipknot"
Photos in the page show Lopez as a family man, photos of him with his two children and Despicable Me characters, and other family photos are intertwined with shots of him at war, and photos of Slipknot, and a Sepultura logo as pictured in the featured photo above.
Lopez was clearly not in a healthy mental state, with some of his final Facebook status updates, written in spanish, said the "devil had taken him" and that he was "full of hatred."
It's clear why somebody with anger and depression issues such as Lopez would turn to heavy metal to help him cope with his emotions. I have read a few reports, from ABC, BreitBart and Every Joe and nobody is blaming Slipknot for anything. While direct blame should obviously go on Lopez, part of the blame should definitely go to the system that made him this way.
