You know, I didn't think the most recent new Linkin Park song was bad at all. No, I'm not exactly going to put it on myself but I wouldn't feel extreme sympathy for my ears if it were on at a public place I was at like a restroom or something.
Linkin Park have a certain sound, and they have built a career off that sound, so you can't really blame them. And they get it too. Frontman Mike Shinoda recently told Rolling Stone:
“We didn’t make a Botch record. We didn’t make a Meshuggah record. We made a really loud and aggressive Linkin Park record, maybe the loudest we’ve made.”
A bunch of sites are making a big deal out of Shinoda name dropping Botch and Meshuggah but really, it's not that big of a deal, as my buddy Sgt. D notes on Stuff You Will Hate: "[A] 30-something guy from Southern California who plays in a heavy alternative band listens to several popular hardcore/metal bands that have been around for like 25 years?? No way!" Way!
