Serpentine Path are, for lack of a better term, a death/doom super group. The band is comprised of members of Electric Wizard, Unearthly Trance, and Winter, and their 2012 self-titled debut album was one of the better releases of that year. Now the band is preparing to release their sophomore effort, called Emanations on Relapse Records, and they just dropped the first taste of their new material via YouTube.
The track, titled "Disfigured Colossus," is equal parts death stench and pot smoke; if you've heard Serpentine Path's previous album you know what I mean. Tim Bagshaw's guitar slowly curls around the listener and works its way into your brain while Ryan Lipynsky grunts about all manner of unsavory business. "Disfigured Colossus" is seductive in a way, but it's also crushingly oppressive.
Relapse is releasing Emanations in North America on May 27th. If you like what you hear below, you can pre-order the album on a number of formats, including a fancy pants limited edition vinyl pressing, here.
