A few days ago we posted the new Chelsea Grin song "Angels Shall Sin, Demons Shall Pray" to some mixed reviews. While there was plenty to be said then about the song, upon the first listen I could have sworn I'd heard the song before… but where?
Well take a listen to the song below and then go ahead and jam Born of Osiris' "Ascension" from their 2012 album The Discovery. It's worth noting guitarist Jason Richardson took part in writing both, for what that information is worth. Here's Chelsea Grin:

That first minute is undeniably very, very close and so is the vocal phrasing. Maybe Richardson got caught up in his style with the new Chelsea Grin song and accidentally wrote the riff? Maybe he didn't write it at all (for either band) and it was someone else in the band. I have no idea.
What do you think? Am I reading too much into this or are these riffs pretty damn close?
Update: Richardson publicly commented on our post, confusing us with our bros from MetalSucks. Regardless, he says he didn't write either song, meaning the similar riffs were purely coincidence. It seems as though Richardson didn't even read this post, seeing as he sent this to MetalSucks who didn't even cover the story.
Update #2: The aforementioned tweets have been removed and redirected at us.
.@metalinjection considering the fact I didn't write either song, you have no valid point whatsoever and are making yourself look ignorant.

Lee wrote ascension, I helped with the chords and bass in the chorus. Dan wrote our new song but you obviously knew that ;) @metalinjection
