Six Nü-Metal Collaborations You Need To Revisit

From Max Cavalera and Deftones' collaboration "Headup", to a specific Snot cut, and more!

Chino Cavalera

Need a quick shot of nü-metal this morning? Because these six picks for nü-metal collaborations that you need to revisit will kick your ass right into gear.

Deftones feat. Max Cavalera – "Headup"

On Deftones' amazing sophomore album Around the Fur, you get a fresh appearances from Sepultura's Max Cavalera. One of the heaviest tracks on the album matches Chino's chaotic screams and Max's guttural yells. Is this the first appearance of the name Soulfly? People are asking!

(Hed) P.E. feat. Serj Tankian and Morgan Lander – "Feel Good"

(Hed)P.E. released their second album Broke in 2000. Early in the record you get a double dose of nü-metal royalty with Serj Tankian of System of a Down and Morgan Lander of Kittie gracing the track "Feel Good". Morgan holds down the lows while Serj hits you with the hook. "Broke" was an instant classic and this track adds to the legacy of the record.

Coal Chamber feat. Ozzy Osbourne – "Shock The Monkey"

There is nothing more nü-metal than a cover! On this version of the Peter Gabriel classic, Coal Chamber enlist the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy brings his undeniable vocal stylings to this reworked gem. I would have loved to have been in the room when Dez pitched this cover, Added bonus is the amount of times Ozzy had to sing the word "monkey"!

Primer 55 feat. Jared Gomes – "Set It Off"

This one is a pick that is close to home and I had to throw it on the list. Bobby Burns and crew released their debut "Introduction To Mayhem" in 2000 and had a few guests on the record including Incubus' DJ Kilmore. On the track "Set it Off', (Hed) P.E.'s Jared comes in like a tornado and spits some classic bars. The combination of Jason Luttrell and Jared Gomes will also make for a legendary duo. The song was always a crowd pleaser and you never who was going to jump up live to sing M.C.U.D.'s part.

Soulfly feat. Fred Durst – "Bleed"

One of the most played songs in my rotation is "Bleed" by Soulfly featuring Fred Durst. The Limp Bizkit frontman comes in and gives one of his best vocal performances of his career. Soulfly and Max Cavalera are not strangers to having multiple guests on records, but the Fred Durst is one of the highlights. This also proves that Fred Durst is and was more than just the MTV darling and could get down with the best of them.

Snot feat. Sevendust – "Angel's Son"

On an album full of collaborations it has to be special to stand out. "Angel's Son" from Strait Up is just that special. The Strait Up album from Snot was a tribute to their fallen singer, Lynn Strait. Snot called on their friends in the nü-metal world to come together and create music with Lynn in mind. Sevendust's Lajon Witherspoon and Clint Lowery came through with this classic. "Angel's Son" hits you right in the feels every time.
