Behemoth frontman must be on a high right now. He beat leukemia and released an incredible new album called The Satanist earlier this year to stellar reviews. They've reached new heights of success, commercially and artistically. So what's left for the band to accomplish?
Maybe nothing at all! The Satanist may just be the last Behemoth album ever. In a new interview with MetalBlast, when asked about the band's future, Nergal didn't have much of an outlook:
“This album opened many doors for us, but it also closed many. You can expect anything from us. Things could go in any direction. There might not even be another record; everything feels right.
“We’re on a very exciting journey right now. It’s a very joyful ride – but I don’t know where it’s going to take us. We might end in a dead-end, and just call it quits.”
Nooooooo! Nobody wants to see Nergal and Behemoth quit right now. They have reached such a level of showmanship with their live shows, how could they even stop? But what would Nergal even do if he wasn't with Behemoth?
“I have so many ideas about so many different things,” he says. “I want to write another book, play more music that isn’t necessarily metal. There are many bands that just put out records to have a reason to tour, but you won’t see us doing that. I’ve always been honest.”
Well there is something admirable about going out on top and leaving a legacy. It certainly leaves room for a very lucrative reunion some years down the line. All hope is not lost, the future is just uncertain for Nergal who provided this last quote:
“There are many questions – more than ever," he says. "You might see us rise again with an inspirational and strong record. But if it doesn’t happen, I’m a happy man because of how happy I am with The Satanist. I honestly love the record.”
Behemoth will exist, at the very least, through April of 2015, where they are booked for Norway's Inferno Fest. Are you ready to see Behemoth end it?
