Now Dave Lombardo is "Open" To A SLAYER Return

But is the rest of the band open to having him back?

But is the rest of the band open to having him back?

It's been a few months since any Slayer and Dave Lombardo drama surfaced so why not once more before the end of they year?

Back in the summer, Lombardo went on record saying he'll never go back to the group, this after having a loose tongue about his former bandmates and even revealing salary figures. Lombardo was not doing himself any favors with the band. We said ourselves that Lombardo is basically never coming back to the band and we're sticking to that based on conversations I've had with people close to the Slayer camp. Even when we interviewed Lombardo for the Livecast, we were given specific instruction to not ask Slayer questions or he might hang up.

I guess the same rule doesn't apply to Eddie Trunk, who had Lombardo as a guest on a recent podcast of his. When asked, for perhaps the millionth time if he'd go back, Lombardo said:

"Would I go back? For the fans, and to retire that band correctly, I'm not gonna close any doors. Like I said before, when all this went down, my door's open, and that's basically all I have to say. So [it's] all good."

Don't start saving for your Slayer reunion tickets just yet. Lombardo also confirmed that he has not spoken to anybody in the band since leaving. Which means, the people who actually decide if Lombardo would be welcome back in Slayer have zero interest in welcoming him back. Why would they? From a business standpoint, the band gets by on the Slayer brand alone. Lombardo was employed as a hired gun and not an equal partner, and was complaining about it. I doubt Bostaph has any such complaints, so why should Slayer change their business model if they are drawing just fine without Lombardo? I guess if the band did do a final retirement run, and thought there would be money in a Lombardo set, they would bring him back. There is that chance.

Put simply: the chances of a Slayer reunion with Lombardo still slim to none.
