Mike Portnoy doesn't know how to take a break. He's currently working on new music with Winery Dogs, his main project of choice and announced that he's decided to bring more metal into his life. He recently posted this to his Facebook page:
Portnoy has been trying to launch a more metal project for a while. Blabbermouth notes that in a 2013 interview with Tell magazine, Portnoy said:
"There's a part of me that would love to do a thrash metal band project, because in everything I've done, I haven't really tapped into that world, which is also really a huge part of my background.
I did these 'Metal Masters' gigs with the guys from Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth and Pantera — I got to tap into that world with that. I certainly would welcome, one of these days, doing a project for a band that's in that world as well."
No word yet on who else is in the project, but Portnoy promises some more information soon. Any educated guesses on who else could be in the band? Or who you'd want to be in the band?
