36 Crazyfists – Time & TraumaÂ
Genre: Alternative metal
Origin: Anchorage, Alaska
Label:Â Spinefarm

My favorite thing about this band, and bands like them, is when the vocalist does bunny hops and looks like he's throwing handfuls of fruit on the ground. That's probably the best part about 36 Crazyfists. As far as this album goes, they're more "radio" friendly than I remember. Also, they have some of that southern-fried rock angle that bands like The Cancer Bats have. I like the bats more though.

Genre:Â Psychedelic Rock
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label:Â Made In China

I'll always liked a band a lot more when I google them and get something I know I wasn't looking for. In this instance I got a lot of cats with wizard hats and facial hair. Once I did find the fuzzy Portlanders, I was just as satisfied with the results as I was with all of the cat pictures. If you were a fan of Ghost and the likes, you'll probably appreciate these guys.

Frankenstein Rooster – The Nerdvrotic Sounds EscapeÂ
Genre: "Post-Agry-Rock"
Origin: Italy
Label:Â Scarlet

I love when instrumental metal is more than one dude wanking. Yes, there is still a ton of guitar wankery here, but there are also plenty of time-signatures and other mood jumps that showcase the stellar rhythm section. Fun music videos whatnot also.

King Woman – Doubt EPÂ
Genre: Stoner
Origin: San Francisco, California
Label:Â The Flenser

This bay area fuzz quartet is epic doom like you're familiar with, but with an added layer of fuzz. This fuzz seemingly weighs down this beast slowing it down further making it more ominous and lurching. Throw some gorgeous shoegaze atmosphere in there and you have this lovely band that hipsters and leather-clad doom loving beardies agree on.

Salythia – Death D'Core EPÂ
Genre: Progressive thrash
Origin:Â Sacramento, California
Label:Â Dead Inside
Buy now on Amazon.com
Last summer I covered Salythia is a Sacramento band piece and it gave me something to look forward to in this EP. Now that it's here, I can say for sure they didn't disappoint. Their EP essentially takes what worked in the early days of Trivium (Which I know can be a bad word in some circles) then they add in some prog, a dab of deathcore and turn it all way up. Well done.
