PANTERA, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, JUDAS PRIEST Among Metal Bands In New Guitar Hero Live! Game

A Guitar Hero without metal is not a Guitar Hero I'd want to check out.

A Guitar Hero without metal is not a Guitar Hero I'd want to check out.

Last month, the makers of Guitar Hero announced they were reactivating the video game for current gen consoles. The gameplay will feature live action video, as if you are really performing in front of a crowd, with the crowd reacting in real time to how well or how poorly you play. There will also be an online element of a 24 hour network of music video channels, where you can log in at any time and just start playing to the music video. There will be specific channels for each genre. Could we see a metal-dedicated channel? It sounds like some really next-level stuff if they are able to pull it off.

Today, the game makers revealed the first round of playable music in the game, and much like in the tradition of the older games, there is a good amount of metal and hard rock on the list. Here are the heavier tracks listed so far:

Pantera – "Cowboys From Hell"
Judas Priest – "Breaking the Law"
Rage Against the Machine – "Guerrilla Radio"
Black Veil Brides – "In The End"
Pierce the Veil – "King for a Day (feat. Kellin Quinn)"

Other music in the game includes:

The Black Keys – "Gold on the Ceiling"
Blitz Kids – "Sometimes"
Ed Sheeran – "Sing"
Fall Out Boy – "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)”
Gary Clark, Jr. – "Don't Owe You a Thang"
Green Day – "Nuclear Family"
The Killers – “When You Were Young"
The Lumineers – "Ho Hey"
My Chemical Romance – "Na Na Na"
The Rolling Stones – "Paint it Black"
Skrillex – "Bangarang"
The War on Drugs – "Under the Pressure"
Sleigh Bells – "Bitter Rivals"
System of a Down – "Chop Suey!"
Alter Bridge – "Cry of Achilles"
Alt-J – "Left Hand Free"
Broken Bells – "Leave It Alone"
Red Hot Chili Peppers – "Higher Ground"
The Pretty Reckless – "Going to Hell"

The game is scheduled for release sometime in the fall and will be available on PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox One and 360, Nintendo Wii U as well as mobile devices. It certainly seems like something worth checking out.
