Dave Mustaine has been having a lot of fun with social media lately. For the last week, while the band is in China and Japan, he's been Periscoping and tweeting while he has some downtime. We played some of the more hilarious Periscope postings of his on last night's Livecast.
As for tweeting, Mustaine has been responding to fan questions whenever he's felt like it and on Friday, somebody asked Mustaine "why are you homophobic?" and Mustaine vehemently denied it writing "I'm not homophobic. You are either misinformed, a troll, or just plain dumb." He then completely invalidated his stance by making a dad joke saying "PS. do I make you horny? Lol!!!"
Of course the idea that Mustaine is a homophobe stems from an interview he gave in 2012 when he was asked if he supported gay marriage and Mustaine, at the time, was vehemently against it saying:
"Well, since I'm not gay, the answer to that would be no." Dave was then questioned if he would support legislation to make marriage between a man and another man legal. He replied, "I'm Christian. The answer to that would be no."
Mustaine would later defend his actions saying:
I think that when you say you’re a Christian, people think that you’re anti-gay, which I’m not. I’m not gay, so… When the question came up that started all this, someone had said ‘What do you think I think about gay rights?”, and I said, “Dude, I’m a heterosexual man, I’m married. The gay rights fight doesn’t have anything to do with me.’
So what do you think? Does Mustaine's stance against gay marriage make him a homophobe? Chime in, as I'm sure you will, below…
