Antlion-The Prescient
Antlion are an upstart progressive focused technical death metal band from Ottawa, Canada who came into existence in 2012. I recently stumbled onto them and became quickly excited over what I heard on "Hubris", their only available song at the time from their forthcoming debut record, The Prescient. I asked them if they'd be interested in having their record streamed early ahead of its official release this Friday. So here we are today with an advanced stream for you to drool over!
What's really interesting about The Prescient is its multi-faceted approach to tech-death that seems to draw influences from a massive swath of different groups. Once you think you have Antlion pigeonholed, they quickly morph into an entirely different sounding band, often multiple times in each track. As for what they sound like overall, it brings to mind a cross-breed between the styles and sounds of groups such as Black Crown Initiate, Fallujah, The Zenith Passage, and Gorod. The Prescient has a lot to offer tech-death devotees, and their mélange of influences swirls into an impressive hybrid Antlion can proudly call all their own. You can order their album on Bandcamp.
Vehement Animosity – Entropy
Greece has given us so many talented metal bands over the years, yet its not known as a strong exporter of technical death metal. That seems likely to change if Cypress-based act Vehement Animosity have anything to say about that. Vehement Animosity formed in 2012 and Entropy serves as their first release and introduction to the world. I'll keep this short and sweet when it comes to explaining their sound and who it will appeal to. If you are a fan of Decrepit Birth, Deeds Of Flesh, and Inanimate Existence, you will love every malevolent second of Entropy.
