MOTORHEAD Fans Petition For New Heavy Metal Element To Be Named After Lemmy Kilmister

Let's do it for Lemmy!

Let's do it for Lemmy!

There is a lot happening in the news the last few days. Of course, we lost one of heavy metal's biggest icons, Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. In the other realm of heavy metals, scientists have discovered four new elements to add to the periodic table, but have yet to name them.

A new petition has been launched by Motorhead fans for one of the elements to be named after a man of science, Lemmy Kilmister. The petition titled "Help Make 'Lemmium' the New Chemical Name for Heavy Metal in the Periodic Table" has 32,000 signatures as of this writing and the petition states:

Lemmy was a force of nature and the very essence of heavy metal.  We believe it is fitting that the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry recommend that one of the four new discovered Heavy Metals in the Periodic table is named Lemmium.  An astrological object (a star) has been named Lemmy to meet the IUPAC naming recommendations.

We couldn't think of a more appropriate tribute. We'll be signing the petition. Will you?

In related news, the band's biggest hit, "Ace of Spades" has entered the Billboard charts for the first time, coming in at number 12 on "Hot Rock Songs" after the track was streamed 1.8 million times in the U.S..
