We recently interviewed frontman Spencer Sotelo on Periphery's tour with SikTh, Chon, and Toothgrinder. While, this lineup is a modern prog fan's paradise, we asked the vocalist what his ideal tourmates and setlist would consist of.
What is a band you have yet to tour with that you’d really like to?
Three bands that I haven’t toured with that I’d really like to is Nine Inch Nails, Slipknot, and Faith No More. Those are easily my dream bands to tour with.
And who have you previously toured with that you’d like to again?
Dream Theater, for sure. That was probably one of my favorite tours in the world that we’ve done. Sweet guys, amazing shows, and they travel with their own kitchen crew who cooks really good food everyday, so it’s a really sick experience. [laughs]
If you could pick only one song from each album for the setlist, which tracks would they be?
Periphery – “Totla Mad”
Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal – “Ragnarok”
Juggernaut: Alpha – “Psychosphere”
Juggernaut: Omega – “Graveless”
Periphery III: Select Difficulty – either “The Way the News Goes…” or “Lune”
And there is a surprise guest appearance from another band who pops in middle of the set. Who is it?
I could see Mike Patton doing “Remain Indoors.” He’s my favorite singer of all time.
For this tour, which three countries would you like included in the run?
We’ve never been to Brazil and I’d really like to go there. We’re headed to South Africa soon, so I’ll add that to the tour. And then just the US would be good as well. That’d be tight.
Are there any specific venues from said countries that you feel would need to be included?
I love playing The Rave in Wisconsin. I don’t know what it is about that place, but there’s some weird energy there that I love. A lot of people say that place is haunted and I can kinda feel it when I’m there, but it’s just kinda a cool vibe being there. And it’s always an amazing show there.
And lastly, there’s a huge prop backstage that comes out at the end of your set, what is it?
A giant dildo shooting whipped cream all over everybody. Because it tastes good and it’s fun.
