WHITECHAPEL Implores Fans Not To Buy Shitty Bootleg Merch On Facebook

Facebook needs to get a better grasp on bootleggers.

Facebook needs to get a better grasp on bootleggers.

I'm willing to bet that if you've been on Facebook within the past 2 months or so, you've seen a sponsored advertisement that looks like this. It doesn't necessarily have to be for Thy Art Is Murder, or any band in particular at all, but just this sort of general advertisement.

If for some reason you haven't figured it out, that's a bootlegger. These sites are constantly cropping up and trying to sell band merchandise without getting the proper licensing, or giving any of the proceeds to any of the proper channels whatsoever.

Whitechapel has finally had enough of it, and are asking fans to get the word out on Facebook that these are not where they should be buying their merchandise from.

“It has come to our attention that there is a company on Facebook advertising bootleg band Christmas sweaters and they are selling one with our logo on it. The band is not affiliated with this company in anyway and sees NO money from the sales. Not only does purchasing these items not help the bands in any way, it actually HURTS them.

I’m not going to post a link in order to reduce the amount of attention to them but please if you see a sponsored post on Facebook for a Christmas sweater that does not come from here, DO NOT BUY IT and be sure to leave some comments telling them what you think of them ripping off your favorite bands. Thank you.

The band also says it's exploring legal avenues to combat this company, or these companies, which is great. In the meantime, if you see these advertisements, please, please don't buy anything!
