Earlier this week, when grilled about his promise to release new Nine Inch Nails music in 2016, Reznor joked that the year isn't over yet and for fans to stay tuned.
He wasn't lying. Moments ago, Reznor updated the NIN.com website to confirm that Nine Inch Nails will release Not The Actual Events, a five track EP on December 23rd, one week from today. Here is what the artwork looks like:
Not much info is available on the release, but Reznor did post the tracklisting:
01. BRANCHES/BONES
02. DEAR WORLD,
03. SHE'S GONE AWAY
04. THE IDEA OF YOU
05. BURNING BRIGHT (FIELD ON FIRE)
He also posted this message, in caps:
THE EP FINDS REZNOR AND NOW OFFICIAL BANDMATE ATTICUS ROSS TAKING AN UNEXPECTED LEFT TURN FROM 2013’S HESITATION MARKS AND SOUNDING UNRECOGNIZABLE FROM THEIR CURRENT FILM WORK.
“IT’S AN UNFRIENDLY, FAIRLY IMPENETRABLE RECORD THAT WE NEEDED TO MAKE” SAYS REZNOR.  “IT’S AN EP BECAUSE THAT ENDED UP BEING THE PROPER LENGTH TO TELL THAT STORY.”
Wait a minute – Atticus Ross is officially in Nine Inch Nails now?!? That's kind of a big deal.
Reznor has also posted pre-order links for a vinyl LPÂ or a "digital + physical component" – with the order page saying "THE INTENTION OF THIS RECORD IS FOR IT TO EXIST IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD, JUST LIKE YOU."
Next Friday cannot come soon enough.
In related news, Reznor also announced a 4-LP reissue of The Fragile album.
