Dank Slams

DANK SLAMS: Arachnophobic? Get Cured Slam-Style With RUPTURED BIRTH!

If you've been following, the last two weeks over here at the Dank offices have been, well, inconceivably brutal. Our heads hurt – our ears still bleeding from the universe-imploding slams of both Analepsy and Cranial Engorgement (if you missed the last two stanky danks, head here and here to hear what you've missed).

So, today, we've got something a little less… slammin. This isn't to say that what's on tap is not as head-crushingly brutal as the above-mentioned. In fact, this shit will literally shred the fucking skin from your decrepit body, without so much as a second glance. If that ain't enough, you are at risk of every organ in that sack of saddened flesh rupturing upon first crushing riff. Proceed at your own risk.

Enter Northern Canadian brutal death metallers, Ruptured Birth. Born as 4-piece sci-fi brutal death/grind band back in the summer of '14, the guys independently released a debut EP, entitled Arachni Supremacy, to rave reviews worldwide. It's easy to see why, as the band – apart from injecting a sense of old-school pit slams – cite influences from a whose who of BSDM, which includes the likes of Devourment, Skewered, Skinless, Mortician, Vulvectomy, Suffocation, Cuff, Dying Fetus, Abominable Putridity, and Putrid Pile, to name but a few.

Ruptured Birth

With a resume stacked with accolades, the Ruptured ones proceeded to ink a deal with revered, long-time label CDN Records, who released their debut full-length, entitled Transmutant this past September (available here). Which brings us to why we are here today. The guys have just dropped their second single from said album, the Quake-inspired "Strogg" (those of you belonging to the PC master race will surely get this reference, and how it ties into the band's overall insect aesthetic). It's a killer track that is sure to turn a few heads with its eclectic mix of BSDM, blackened death, and a smidgen of keyboard tinkerings. Check it out…

For something a little more in the vein of this column, check out the first single from Transmutant, entitled "Saprogenic"…

Regarding Transmutant, the guys had this to say…

"It took us a few months to track Transmutant, and we really focused on getting good tones and sounds this time around. I think what makes this a unique album for our genre is that we mix so many influences including straight up death metal, slam, grind, doom, and even a bit of black metal – but in an organized-chaos-kind-of-way that always ends up sounding like Ruptured Birth.

We think Transmutant is something that fans of brutal slamming death metal will enjoy and offers up a few different elements they might not otherwise hear, and maybe will help to separate us from the pack.

Regarding future material, our goal is just to keep growing as a band technically and to keep the slams as brutal and groovy as possible, and offer something unique to the genre to hopefully have our name become a brutal household name like all the bands we look up to."
