UPDATE 4/21/2017 6:00PM EDT – After this story has now been published for eight hours, Ivan Moody has released a new statement, which reveals many things. Moody completely backpedals on the claims he made in the interview we reported on below and instead is choosing to blame the media for misinterpreting his words. Moody attempts to clarify that Villain will be a side project much like Stone Sour is Corey Taylor's side project from Slipknot. Read his full statement here. Original story follows:
Ivan Moody has been pretty much off the grid since Five Finger Death Punch's November tour, where Moody was in no shape to be on stage, leading to some awkward footage and backlash from fans. The following night, he noted he had a "mental meltdown," while some fans in attendance noted he was still in no shape to perform. Moody promptly left the tour, saying he had "fallen ill" with the implication that he was checking into rehab.
Moody resurfaced today, in a new interview with Denver’s 106.7 KBPI, and shockingly revealed he would be leaving Five Finger Death Punch.
“To be completely honest with you, Death Punch and I have kind of come to a crossroads. We’re very proud of what we’ve done – years and years and years of work…,” he said.”
“It’s time for us to take our way and go do something else, so after this year… my new band, Villain… I’m so excited.”
Moody notes he will complete the band's remaining tour itinerary for the year and then exit.
Five Finger Death Punch just completed recording a new album and are currently embroiled in a lawsuit with their label Prospect Park to release them from their contract. When Moody left the band's tour a few months ago, All That Remains' frontman Phil Labonte filled in.
The band have yet to comment on the situation. UPDATE: Ivan released a new statement saying he was misinterpreted.
