P.O.D. continues to bring the nü-tinged heaviness with a new single "Afraid To Die" featuring Jinjer vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk. Much like their previous effort "Drop" with Lamb Of God singer Randy Blythe, it's a rager!
"'AFRAID TO DIE' is a combination of cryptic and triumphant melodies," said P.O.D. guitarist Marcos Curiel. "It has storytelling rhymes and chugged verses, and a wide open, melodic yet semi-morbid, chorus. It's anthemic In every sense of the word."
He continues: "Our dear friend Tatiana Shmayluk offers her unique approach and we had incredible musical chemistry with her. This is P.O.D. hitting the human core of our existence and dealing with love, fear, integrity, and most of all, family and friends. It's ultimately an abundance of love and life."
Both "singles"Afraid To Die" and "Drop" are a part of P.O.D.'s upcoming album Veritas, which is due out sometime in 2024. On the new album, P.O.D. vocalist Sonny Sandoval said that the new album is "just rocking all the way through." He also revealed that renowned session drummer Robin Diaz laid down the drum tracks, marking the first P.O.D. LP that doesn't feature longtime drummer Noah "Wuv" Bernardo Jr.
"I would say this album is definitely more rocking. It was a different writing process because of COVID and all that stuff. It wasn't like we could all sit in a room like we're used to. So a lot of it was just piecing things together. And so it was basically song by song. And then by the time we have an album's worth, it's kind of, like, that's just what it's supposed to be. And a lot of people are saying, 'Did you guys get to do your reggae kind of swing, any more punk-type stuff?' And, actually, I think it's just rocking all the way through."
