I had the great pleasure of seeing Rokets at the Viva Sounds festival last week, where they blasted the audience at The Abyss with maximum volume rock n' roll riffage. Upon the end of their show, I had one thought – I need to listen to this band like, right now.
Now we're premiering the new music video for Rokets' latest single "Destroyer" and I personally couldn't be more stoked. The video was directed, filmed, and edited by Mika Paananen and features everything from live footage to cruising around in a 1966 Chrysler 300. "Destroyer" is from Rokets' latest record Break Free, available here.
"'Destroyer' is one of our favourite songs to play from the new album and was an easy choice as the one that got the first ever music video treatment," said Rokets vocalist Sami. "The song was born really naturally as I left our rehearsal space and had a walk to the bus stop while this riff started playing in my head. I was humming it, recorded it on my phone and played it to our guitarist Sakke the next time we met. He finished it right there and then while I wrote some lyrics to it thinking about the song Bomber by Motörhead. 'Destroyer' is an obvious homage to Lemmy, Philthy Animal and Fast Eddie; an all-guns-blazing-no-filler-sonic-killer.
"The video was shot, directed and edited in Helsinki by our good friend Mika Paananen who's an amazing all around guy when it comes to taking photos, shooting a video, editing pretty much anything or creating some digital content. All glory to him! This music video business was new to all of us and we didn't really have any ideas or desires about what we wanted it to be like, so Mika had free hands to do whatever and we were really pleased with the outcome. I think the video suits the music perfectly.
"Lauri, the bass player, had the idea for it to just film some live material from our gigs, edit that stuff together, and add something 'else' in there. That 'else' ended up being Sakke's '66 Chrysler 300 and our biker friends who were kind enough to do some riding for the video.
