It's been about a year since we first heard of the live action Twisted Metal show, but now we've finally got a trailer and a release date! Twisted Metal will premiere on Peacock+ on July 27 and you can check out the trailer featuring Anthony Mackie and the iconic Sweet Tooth above. It ain't much to go on, but hey – Twisted Metal is happening.
It's worth noting the show bills Sweet Tooth as the clown, even though in the games Sweet Tooth is the ice cream truck and Needles Kane is its clown driver. Just throwing that out there.
Twisted Metal is being billed as a "high-octane action comedy" set "across a post-apocalyptic wasteland." Zombieland and Deadpool writing tag-team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are at the helm, while Anthony Mackie will star as John Doe, a milkman with an attitude, with all of his past memories having escaped him. Doe is given a rare opportunity to find a sense of self and finally hear the tones of home—that is, should a wave of savage combat not destroy him first.
Along the way, Mackie's character finds back-up in form of a quick-on-the-draw car thief, played by Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as they square off against mayhem-driven bad guys driving vehicles of death, and evade the insanity of unhinged clown— Sweet Tooth—in an ice cream truck. Thomas Haden Church (Sideways, Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Neve Campbell (Scream, Wild Things) are also set to star.
The first Twisted Metal game was released on PlayStation in 1995, and the final one also dubbed Twisted Metal was released on the Playstation 3. Though with renewed interest, who knows – maybe we'll get more?
