Former DevilDriver guitarist Mike Spreitzer recently launched his new band Verona On Venus. Spreitzer has since fleshed out the lineup to a five-piece featuring ex-DevilDriver drummer Austin D'Amond (Chimaira) and guitarist Neal Tiemann (Carnifex) alongside guitarist Lucas Kanopa (Audiation) and mystery bassist Ovo.
Verona On Venus is now streaming their new single "Pretty" produced by Spreitzer, and mixed and mastered by Lasse Lammert. If you're looking for a big ol' slow-burning gothy jam for your October, this should be on your playlist.
"'Pretty" is a dark love song about a hypothetical scenario where a couple, captivated by one another, abandon their faith in humanity, witness the demise of civilization, and live happily as the last two people on Earth," said Spreitzer.
"The idea was inspired by an experiment called Universe 25 where rats were used to compare their behavior in high-density environments versus low-density environments. The rats demonstrated how excessive overcrowding could lead to social breakdown, aggression, and population decline. This process is known as a 'behavioral sink.'"
Spreitzer quit DevilDriver in September of this year saying he wants to be a full-time musician again. Spreitzer would later reveal that Verona On Venus became a point of contention between himself and DevilDriver vocalist Dez Fafara, resulting in his leaving.
