KORN Guitarist Says Next Album Will Be Guitar-Focused Like The Serenity Of Suffering

Korn's 2016 album The Serenity Of Suffering seems to be the band's best-received album in quite some time. It's a throwback to the Korn of the 1990s and according to guitarist Brian "Head" Welch in a new interview with Good Company, he says the band is talking about going down that path again. Specifically, he says the new stuff being discussed should be a combination of The Paradigm Shift and The Serenity Of Suffering alongside "some new stuff."

The next record we’re talking about doing. You know, I think it’s gonna be a combination of maybe both of these [The Serenity Of Suffering & The Paradigm Shift] We’ll try some new stuff though, but we’re definitely going to focus on guitars again.

Me and [guitarist] Munky are like… We put in the most hours with the band. ‘Cause Jonathan, he said he’s gonna spend more time writing with us this record. ‘Cause he just came in—the last two records that I’ve been back—he came at the last… Like when we were done.

He says: ‘Gimmie the songs when you’re done and I’ll write lyrics.’ He’s gonna come in and be involved with the music. So yeah, I think we’ll have a good record, an even better record this time around because everybody [is] involved.

Head is also asked about if the band will do anything to celebrate its 1998 album Follow The Leader in 2018, to which he responds "we’re talking about celebrating this record somehow. But I don’t know."

Considering the nostalgia factor alone for the first four Korn albums, it seems like a safe guess that a Follow The Leader tour would probably rake in a ton of money.
