Your mom might be metal, but it's tough to top the hardcore spirit of Cradle Of Filth frontman Dani Filth's mother.
Filth, recently shared an unexpected revelation about his mother's funeral playlist during a video interview with Metal Hammer. The UK extreme metal icon disclosed that his mother has a peculiar request for her final sendoff — she wants the band's 2004 hit single "Nymphetamine" to play as she's laid to rest.
"My mum wants it played at her funeral," Filth remarked, prompting a surprised reaction from the interviewer. He then quipped, "Apparently so. But she'll be dead, so we can change the tracklisting."
The dark yet romantic track has solidified its place as a Cradle Of Filth classic. Released as the lead single from their sixth album, also titled Nymphetamine, it's a staple in the band's live performances, and their second-most played song live, following the fan-favorite 'Her Ghost In The Fog'.
As Filth puts it, "It's our time-honored track. If we don't play it, people revolt – I'm not saying our fans are revolting or anything like that. Ha ha!"
The music video for "Nymphetamine," directed by Danny Jacobs, further cemented the song's legacy. Filth recalls, "He wanted everything simple and stylish. He did it, and it was an MTV fave for a long time." The video's hauntingly elegant visuals paired with the song's powerful narrative ensured it became a favorite during the early 2000s.
Dani has previously shared other quirky anecdotes about his mum. In an interview with Metal Hammer last year, he revealed that she has a crush on Tom Araya, the frontman of Slayer. "I don't know [what the appeal is]. I don't see it myself," Dani admitted. "I just know she does because I see Instagram accounts like ‘Tom Araya lovers' and the first name I see is my mum's."
