It may just be. MetalBandArt.com, a great new site exploring the artwork behind our favorite genre, has discovered this to be the album cover for Mastodon's next opus, The Hunter. The artwork is a departure from the 'don style of yore, and with reason; this is the first cover not done by Paul Romano. Romano painted all of the Atlanta natives' previous album covers. For this one, they enlisted the incredibly talented AJ Fosik. Personally, I am a big fan of the colors picked for the album, and I really like the typopgraphy of both the band's logo and the album title.
While this is very pretty and all, the band has yet to officially confirm that this is the album cover. No mention on their official site or Facebook page. AJ Fosik has yet to even make mention of this. But then again, why would somebody just go ahead and make such a sick piece of art for no reason? (UPDATE: Junkie BigBlueBass let me know that the band confirmed the cover via their official newsletter mailing) Either way, can we just hear some music already?! I guess I'll have to settle for their kickass new video for Deathbound [via Metalsucks]
