If you're reading this, congratulations. You survived the orange hell that was 2020 and the first 20 or so days of January 2021. That said, as I sit and type these words, I feel like after the last four years nothing, I mean, absolutely nothing could possibly surprise me. But you know, kind of like the first time you get to the center of a fucking Tootsie Pop, life is full of surprises. Today, that surprise is Canadian artist and devoted headbanger, Darren Moreash, aka, the "Geppeto" of Harrisfield, Nova Scotia. So here's the deal with Moreash's heavy metal connection–his large assortment of marionettes fashioned after his musical heroes which he makes for his company, Darrionettes. Not only has Moreash carved marionettes in the image of Rob Halford, James Hetfield, Ozzy, and others, he has been able to present his muses with a puppet version of themselves over the years. Resulting in some slightly strange, yet super cool photo ops. I mean, of all the photos you've seen of Lemmy Kilmister, did you ever think you see a photo of him toying around with a marionette that looks just like him, warts and all? From Ronnie James Dio with his devil horns out, Oderus Ungerus, and the great Chuck Schuldiner of Death, Moreash's metal woodworking runs deep. It does appear that Moreash is still in the business of making metal marionettes, so if you've always wanted to see a marionette version of the band Venom performing "Welcome to Hell" in your own living room, you could probably make that happen. More information can be found on Darrionettes FB page.
